Innokin Kroma 217 Z Force Review - is it a Game Changer?

1st Feb 2022

Innokin Kroma 217 Z Force Carbon Fiber

Innokin is a respected name in the vaping industry with a long history of success due to its extensive research and testing of its products. They have designed a fine collection of pod vapes and mod systems, albeit less frequent than other popular brands like SMOK, GeekVape and VOOPOO, instead of picking and choosing selective products they feel will satisfy the ever-changing demands of vapers.

This review of their latest mod, the Innokin Kroma 217 Z Force, highlights the work they’ve done behind the scenes. However, does the DTL and RDL capabilities give vapers the freedom to experiment, compared to previous models? We will explain the key features and how to use the device. Plus, what we think of the flavour and cloud production from the latest Sub-Ohm device produced by Innokin.

How Does the Innokin Kroma 217 Kit Differ From Previous Mods?

The key difference from previous Innokin vape kits is the dual inside and outside mesh coil design with the new Z Force Tank. This is an innovation from Innokin not seen before in the industry, from any brand. The coil refresh feature, which we have seen with previous Innokin mods, such as the Coolfire range with the Z80 and the Innokin Sensis prolongs the taste and life of the coil for an extended period. Another welcome plus point on the Z Force Tank is the ‘Spring Loaded Automatic Juice Flow Control’, which allows the vaper to keep the juice inside and swap the Z Force coil for a new one. This is fantastic for Sub-Ohm vapers who need to top up their vape juice frequently.

How Does it Vape?

The Kroma 217 Z Force kit is not only a great looking mod but delivers excellent Sub-Ohm results, with the potential to vape amazing clouds of vapour with real warmth and flavour in a direct lung or restrictive direct lung fashion. Thanks to the easy airflow switch, you can effortlessly change between RDL and DTL, producing the throat hit and smooth texture you desire.

Because of the coil design, which is explained in more depth below, you can experience a high level of consistency with each vape. Apply the coil refresh button via the menu to extend the coil flavour longevity. The coils last a good couple of weeks and create a decent vape experience whether you use the 0.2 or 0.3 Ohm coils.

Let’s Talk About the Innokin Z Force Coils

These Z Force coils are a ‘force’ of nature. With an inside mesh, wrapped in cotton, then an outside mesh, which is also wrapped in a coil, the DuoPrime feature exceeds our expectations. Wicking initially on the outside coil, it produces enhanced flavour with a careful process at a lower temperature, which helps to boost the results of the inside coil. The coils saturate quicker, maximising the flavour.

Innokin Z Force 0.2 Sub Ohm

There are two different types of coils for this kit. The draw from the lower 0.2 resistance is smoother when the airflow is wide open, helping to form a denser and richer vape experience with a higher impact from your e-liquid.

At 0.3 Ohm when the airflow is open, it produces great results too but perhaps a little loud for some vapers, depending on personal preference. Closing the airflow slightly will help to reduce the noise, which is common with mesh Sub-Ohm tanks.

Functionality and How to Use the Device

This ergonomic vape mod looks stylish from the tank to the battery door at the bottom. You can pick between a 18650 (80W), 21700 or 20700 battery, which can alter the maximum potential of your wattage, with 100W using the 21700 the highest power performance.

With the airflow control, you can turn the ring at the bottom of the tank, opening or closing the airflow holes depending on how restrictive or loose you want your vape.

Fill up the Z Force tank by pushing the slide fill cap, which is a similar design to the Zlide Tank, although the former is kitted with a few more modern features for the 2022 vapers. The mechanism is strong to open and close the fill port, so it’s not likely to rattle.

It’s three clicks like most Innokin devices to turn your Kroma 217 Z Force mod on and off. The display screen, which also acts as the fire bar, offers a variety of functions listed below to navigate the device:

  • Drop the battery in the slot, click into place by pushing down and sliding across
  • Displays wattage, battery level, resistance and puff counter on the main screen once you turn on the device
  • Hold the up or down button until the settings blink, to then alter the wattage in increments of 0.5 then eventually 1.0 to the max power setting (depending on your chosen battery)
  • Down button and fire bar held together locks the device to stop it from going off in your pocket
  • You can clear the puff counter by holding the fire bar and up button
  • Pressing both the down and up button enters the menu. There you can access the coil +, power, refresh and settings

For an in-depth look at the different functions available to the user, the device is packaged with a manual, accessible here in PDF format.

Appearance Breakdown

If you love a stylish mod with a shiny finish instead of matte that stands out, the Innokin Kroma 217 kit is for you. The mod blends beautifully with the Z Force Tank. The display is clear and easy to read. It’s a handy feature that the fire bar is also the screen. Therefore, you can hold it multiple ways and touch the fire button.

The mod looks cool with a range of different designs on the back, which feels good in the hand with a nice grip texture on the back panel. You have a type-c charging port underneath the up and down button.

Any Disadvantages?

  • The Z Force tank gives a slightly loud noise as mentioned earlier when using the 0.3 Z Force coil
  • If you like to vape direct lung and alter the performance using temperature control, this device doesn’t offer that feature, but these days most people opt for adjustable wattage control anyway
  • Not loads of space to fill e-liquid bottle - top tip: remove the drip tip and you’ll find the process much easier

Verdict

Overall, this is a highly-rated mod and exciting addition to the vape mod discussion for 2022, with Innokin demonstrating its knack for producing long-lasting and reliable products. The refresh option extends the life of the coils utilising their innovative technology and the unique dual mesh coil design with double cotton wrapped around is a fascinating talking point on the vaping scene to increase flavour at a faster rate for longer.

There are a couple of subjective disadvantages here and there like with most vape kits but these do not affect the performance of the device, tank or coils. Swapping out the battery is easy and it’s a nice touch that you can pick the power and replace when required. If you keep an extra battery charged and ready and want to maximise the flavour from your high VG e-liquids, this mod will not disappoint!
