Vape Tank FAQs
What is a Vape Tank?
A vape tank is a key accessory for all vape kits. Housed at the top of the device above the battery, it easily screws into place (often via a pin) and plays an important role in the e-liquid process.
Holding the vape coil, e-liquid and wick, a working coil acts as the heating element inside the tank, heating the e-liquid also stored in the tank to produce the vapour required. With a mouthpiece connected at the top, all together without a vape tank you simply wouldn’t be able to vape.
What’s the Difference Between a Mouth to Lung and Sub-Ohm Tank?
The main difference that separates a mouth-to-lung (MTL) tank and a Sub-Ohm tank (DTL) is the final result.
An MTL tank is typically used by ex-smokers who continue to vape with the same method as they would with a cigarette. That means vaping into the mouth, holding for a few seconds and then drawing into the lungs. This creates a small amount of cloud and more of a throat hit.
In comparison, a Sub-Ohm tank is aimed at vapers who inhale directly into the lungs to create more power and vapour production.
Can You Use Any Vape Tank on Any Device?
Not necessarily, as it depends on the device you have and the connection of that battery-powered vape kit. In some cases, devices from the biggest brands like Innokin, Smok and Geekvape are compatible with a wide range of their tanks to give you more options and customisation.
However, the device must be compatible with the tank connector, and your chosen coil, to create the intended results from that vape tank.
Most tanks should have a 510 connector pin, so it could be compatible with other tanks from other brands too.
How Long Do Vape Tanks Last?
The durability and lifespan of the vape tank depend on a few factors. This can include how often you use the device, the durability of the coils and whether the vape tank is manufactured well. If you buy from a respected brand and use a vape tank moderately, it can last anywhere between 1-4 weeks.
Which Vape Tank Doesn’t Leak?
The best vapes do not leak. Our advice is to find a vape tank with top airflow and a top fill method. Fill to the recommended line and don’t overfill the tank. This allows the vape juice to soak in to the coil in good time at the bottom of the tank and lets the air, flow naturally.
Some vape tanks still have side-fill methods for topping up vape juice, which is a little more tricky and can lead to leaks if not done correctly. In addition, bottom airflow can lead to leaking through the airflow holes at the rear end of the device, so it is best to keep your vape tank upright.
Why Are All Vape Tanks Only 2ml?
This is because of Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) regulations set in 2014 to prevent the overuse of nicotine. While it means filling your vape tank more often as 2ml doesn’t go a long way for some (especially high VG Sub-Ohm tank e-liquids), it can deter some vapers from excessively inhaling too much e-liquid in one go, with regular breaks in between.
